Mount Union to Host 2011 Summer Distance Running Camp






Mount Union will host a Summer Distance Running Camp on July 10-13, 2011 in Alliance.
The camp allows young athletes the opportunity to gain knowledge and tools to help them in all facets of running from preparation and training to successful tools in competition. The camp creates a setting where philosophies are shared that have helped teams and individuals succeed at the next level and translated to runners regardless of their individual skill level and ability. The goal of the camp is for campers to leave with increased knowledge and passion to be the best runner they can be.
CAMP INFORMATION
  • The camp runs from Sunday, July 10 to Wednesday, July 13 at the University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio.
  • Move in for the camp is July 10 from 4 pm - 5:30 pm at the Timken Physical Education Building on the Mount Union campus. Campers will be fed at 6 pm Sunday after registration.
  • Commuters do not need to check in until Monday, July 11 shortly before 9 am.
WHO IS THE CAMP FOR?
  • The camp is for boys and girls of all abilities entering grades 7-12.
COSTS
  • Lodging on campus, meals, snacks, daily runs, camp notes, information on running at the collegiate level, team building activities, access to pool, indoor track, outdoor track and lectures on development, nutrition, and motivation from our guest speakers—some of the best coaches and athletes in the Midwest and Nation!—and more!
  • Resident: $270.00 per camper ($250.00 if registered by April 30)

  • Commuter (9am - 9pm each day) - $190 per camper *Do not need to arrive until Monday, July 11

CAMP STAFF
  • Dan Graber is an assistant coach at Centre (KY) College who has helped lead the Colonels to an NCAA Division III South Region title and multiple appearances in the NCAA Championship meet while his runners have set new school records in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, 5,000 and 10,000 meters. He was a two-time Academic All-American at Heidelberg who last year won the Louisville (KY) Half-Marathon.
  • Dan Simpson is an assistant coach at Mount Union who also has had coaching stints at Defiance and Augusta State (GA). A graduate of Heidelberg, he earned All-OAC cross country honors twice and was the school-record holder in the 5,000 meters.
  • Greg Zumberger was a five-time All-OAC selection and a national qualifier in the steeplechase as a runner at Heidelberg. He served one year as an assistant at his alma mater where the men's cross country team finished 19th in the nation. He also had multiple state qualifiers in cross country and track in a three-year run as an assistant coach at Ft. Loramie High School.
